You complete and submit an online conversion application form.
The Beth Din will contact you to arrange an initial interview (options for
Zoom or in-person interviews).
Once your eligibility for conversion has been determined, you will receive reading material about Judaism and begin learning Hebrew* and mastering the conversion syllabus. The Beth din will recommend Hebrew teachers
to assist you.
Over the course of your two years of learning you will be invited to the Beth Din every six months for a meeting to review your progress.
Once a full two years have passed and you have completed all of the requisite learning, and are living a life compliant with Jewish law, tradition
and practice, you will be invited to the Beth Din for a revision session with a Dayan. The Dayan will evaluate your readiness to complete the process and you will either be given a date for the completion of your conversion, or a date to return to the Beth Din for a further revision session/interview.
You will attend a final session/interview with the full bench of Dayanim.
Your conversion will be completed with an immersion at the Mikva. Male converts will also need to be circumcised to complete their conversion.
Yes. Even though moving can be difficult for various reasons, the Beth Din requires
converts to move to live within walking distance of an Orthodox synagogue where you
can participate comfortably in Orthdodox Jewish life. This is vital for your religious growth and success.
This varies depending on your circumstances, and your level of knowledge of Judaism
when you begin the conversion process. However you can expect the process to take a minimum of 24 months from the time that you are accepted to the programme.
Conversion to Judaism is a life-long commitment. To ensure that each convert is fully
aware of the scope of their commitment to Judaism, and cognizant of all relevant aspects of Jewish law, the Beth Din must observe the progress of each convert over an extended period of time. To rush the process would be ultimately counter-productive.
Yes, you can. However you must be open with the Beth Din about your relationship, and both yourself and your partner must participate in the learning process. Failure to inform the Beth Din about an existing relationship could result in immediate removal from the conversion programme.
The conversion programme requires you to have a dedicated Rabbi who will assist you and guide you to become part of his community. He should be willing to report to the Beth Din regarding your participation in synagogue services and community events, and liaise with us prior to each review session that we conduct.
Yes, you will be able to do so. However you will no longer be able to attend church services, even for special occasions, nor eat meals in your family’s homes as you will be observing a Kosher diet. You will also be forbidden from celebrating holidays such as December 25th and Easter. We encourage you to be open with your family about these changes, showing them that your respect and love for them is unchanged.
